Since it was the first Saturday in a long time that we had free, we decided to have some quality family day. It was between LA Zoo and Kidspace and since the weather looked gloomy, we decided to head indoors.
This past weekend, Marilyn and I participated in the Los Angeles marathon. Yes, the same Marilyn that hates running and whose previous longest race was a 5k. There was everything that we didn’t want in a race…rain, hail, sleet, freezing winds…and add the fact that she didn’t run the past 6 weeks due to a knee injury…nothing stopped her from getting to the finish line. The best part about the day was being part of something amazing – helping Marilyn accomplish something she thought she couldn’t do and doing it together. I am so very proud of her and love her very much. We may have a runner in our midst
This past weekend, Andrew and I participated in our last RoadRunner group before the LA Marathon this upcoming Sunday. One of the things we needed to accomplish was pick up Marilyn and mine’s bracelet. These bracelets allowed us to access race corrals that are only meant for LA RoadRunners.
The pickup for these bracelets were set up inside one of the rooms at the school gym. So Andrew (in his BOB stroller) and I were in line when the guy controlling traffic at the entrance of the room informed us we could go in the room. However, as I was pushing Andrew forward, the guy looked at Andrew and then me and said I had to leave my baby outside since there was no room inside. As he said this, one of his partners started to move in my direction to take the stroller and said ”I’ll watch your kid.” I guess I must given him some deadly stare because he started to back off. I looked at the guy at the door and said “Let me get this straight…you want ME to leave MY kid outside because there is no room inside. You must be out of your mind…do you want to repeat what you just said again.” He started mumbling some things and said go ahead with the stroller. I said “that’s right” and strolled into the almost EMPTY room.
I was kinda hoping he wouldn’t give in so it could give me a reason to go above him and get his dumb a$$ in trouble or something. Anyways, my first real “Daddy” moment
Just 20 days until our marathon. We’ve been training for months; running as much as 15 miles with Andrew in tow. Unfortunately, injuries and life have gotten in the way these past 2 months. I busted my right t-band back in December and Marc sprained his ankle in January. Since then, we haven’t had a successful running training session in quite some time. We are still doing the marathon… the goal is to finish. We’ve got 13 hours to complete the course. haha. On March 20th keep us in your thoughts for a successful and enjoyable experience.
