As you know, Andrew has been battling cradle cap (seborrhoeic dermatitis) for a few weeks now. It seems like the warm weather is making it worse.
At first, it was just rough patches, dandruff like on his head. Now, it’s spread to his face and even his tiny shoulders. Poor guy. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem itchy. Though, like most babies, Andrew rubs his face around sleepytime which irritates the skin more. During the day, he seems pretty unaffected by the “itchies”. Cradle cap is supposed to go away on its own with time but it’s gotten pretty bad.
We’ve tried most home/online remedies that we’ve read up on, but decided to take him to the doctor to get more help. He gave us some tips on how to control the rash and referred us to a dermatologist whom we see in a few days. I’m hopeful he will be able to help us out.
I even took Andrew to see an Eastern Medicine Chinese doctor, recommended by a friend of ours whose baby was treated/cured for an eczema like rash. He gave me his advice (feed the baby soymilk only – no breastmilk, no formula, no cow’s milk) and mixed up some crazy herbs to give to Andrew 3 times a day. Eastern medicine is based on concoctions of herbs and roots though the contents of them are unknown to the patient. I haven’t acted upon any of his advice but I was curious to see what he had to offer. I think it’s fair to say, most parents will try almost anything to help out their child.
What’s the cause? Overactive sebaceous glands due to mother’s hormones still circulating the babies immature immune system. Cradle cap is not indicative of poor hygiene, my breastfeeding or Marc’s “itchy kisses” from his nonexistent beard.
If any of you know of anything that can help, please pass your info this way. Thanks

In our calendar it reads: July 3rd @ 9:30am SURPRISE!
Bright and early that Saturday morning, Marc woke me to get ready for a surprise he had planned for me. At 9:15am we were in the car heading North. I figured, if we left that late, we must be going someplace close. I was completely stunned when we pulled up to the Burke Williams Spa in Santa Monica! Marc scheduled spa treatments for me. So thoughtful! While I was relaxing at the spa, Marc took Andrew out for a walk at the Promenade.
Afterward, Marc says, “there’s more”. So we hop into the car and head East. We end up in Downtown LA. I’ve lived in LA most of my life and I don’t know anything about Downtown. Marc said that during high school that this was his old stomping grounds. He would hangout in Downtown after school while he waited for his dad to finish work. He was going to give me a tour of Downtown LA! I was so excited. We started at the Public Library and got new library cards. Then roamed the city to take pictures and hear fun stories from Marc’s childhood. I loved every minute of it.
Finally, we headed back West to have a late lunch at the Grove. We had crepes from my favorite crepe place, The French Crepe Company. Such a perfect way to end a perfect surprise. Thank you for being so wonderful Marc!
