Mommy & Me class

Andrew and I attended our first Mommy & Me class. It was awesome. He made new friends, learned new songs and practiced his visual and motor skills. Honestly, I was nervous at first. I wasn’t sure what to expect and I crossed my fingers that Andrew didn’t have a crying fit. When we got to class he was fast asleep in his stroller. I felt bad waking him up but I needed to get him used to being in public and with lots of people. Of course he was upset when I woke him up. Luckily, he stopped crying after a quick diaper change. The teacher waited for Andrew and I before starting class. Awesome and slightly embarrassing too.

We did introductions and then the fun began. It was awesome. We sang songs and did movements that help to stimulate his vision and body control. We did tummy time, played with educational toys and even had fun with bubbles. Andrew totally enjoyed the class. He didn’t cry nor did he fall asleep. whoo whoo!  Day 1 of Mommy & Me class was a success. We can’t wait for the next class.

Family from Austrailia

Marc’s Uncles were visiting from Austrailia and we had dinner with them at CPK before their trip back Down Under. We hope to visit the De Jesus side of the family in a few years. Maybe hangout with some kangaroos and koalas while we’re there.

Jean-Claire was in town with her daughter Taylor and we had lunch at C & Os. We haven’t kept in touch since college, so this was definitely a great catch up session. We stuffed all our post college stories into our 2 hour lunch. It was great. We talked about motherhood, careers, relationships, the future… and of course “how did you and chino hook up?” haha. It’s awesome to see that we’ve both grown up. I can’t believe we’re moms.

Taylor’s super cute. She’s 2 1/2 years old and ordered a mushroom pizza, based on the mushroom picture on the kids menu. She really only liked the mushrooms… not the pizza part. Jean had to pick out the mushrooms and place them on Taylor’s plate. Super funny!

I can’t believe Andrew Shawn is 5 weeks old. He’s gotten so much bigger from that day we took him home from the hospital.  :( He’s already outgrown all his newborn clothes. I had to pack the cute newborn onesies away and wash all the 3 month clothing. He can wear 2 piece garments now! AND he’s started to say new words. He’ll say, “ahhhh” and even “hi”. haha. Ok it sounds like “hi” so I think he’s saying “Hi Mommy”. :) It’s incredible. Time really does goes by so quickly.

We signed up for Mommy & Me classes. At his age the activities focus on visual and motor development. Super excited. :)

AJ’s baptism

My cousin Lovene’s son, Andrew Jospeh (AJ), had his baptism and most of the family was there to celebrate. Our family has gotten significantly larger and it makes for amazing family gatherings full of great food and tons of laughs. This was Andrew’s first time meeting his cousins so Marc and I were excited. On the Naanos side there are 17 cousins, including myself. From the 17 cousins there are 21 children in Andrew’s generation with 2 on their way this year. So Andrew has a ton of little ones to play with. :) Can’t wait for the next fam bam party.

Marc, Andrew, Nikki and I headed to the house to do a little yard work. The grass was getting quite long and Marc wanted to take a stab at doing some landscaping. This proved to be much more difficult than expected. After attempting to trim the grass in the backyard, Marc decided its best to leave that to the professionals. haha. He went for a quick swim shortly after.

This should’ve been our first indication that this was a bad idea. haha

Ready to attack the killer grass

Let’s try the the over sized scissors

Parent mode: ON!

When Marc and I first found out I was pregnant, we slowly started getting into that “parent” mindset.  We started eating healthier, exercising more, figuring out how to save money or better yet, make more money. We read tons of books, took classes and probed our parents, family and friends for any advice.  We tried our best to absorb all the information to prepare ourselves for our little boy. Still, with all the efforts to prepare, you’re not really sure what kind of parent you’ll become. Over protective? Laid back? Sudden germ-a-phobe? Does it just happen naturally? You’re never quite sure, until you are thrown into a situation, how you’ll react.  We just gotta trust that we’ve prepared enough, and pray that when put to the test we make the right decisions.

Today my son threw up.

Naturally, I was startled at first. Then within seconds went into “parent mode”. I scooped up Andrew, quickly sat him upright and wiped the vomit from his mouth and face.  He looked at me blankly as more vomit came from his mouth. All the information I’ve collected through books, learned from classes and through conversations with parents came flooding into my mind.

  • I checked to make sure he was breathing. CHECK!
  • I was trying to get more of the vomit out and waiting for him to cry. Crying is good. Crying means his throat is clear. Thankfully he finally let out a cry. *sigh* CHECK!
  • Then I took his temperature. 98.8 degrees. CHECK!
  • I let him calm down a bit. CHECK!

I called the Doctor’s office. They said that one incidence of vomit is ok, but that I should monitor him throughout the day. If his temperature goes up, if he vomits again or if he doesn’t have the right amount of diapers I should take him into the office.

Needless-to-say I’ve been watching him like a hawk: making sure he’s eating and burping properly, checking his diapers and have been taking his temperature every so often.

He’s finally asleep… he looks so peaceful.
