Courteney is famous

Courteney was part of the In The Heights flash mob at Universal City Walk this past weekend. They are promoting the show at the Pantages Theater. I hear great things about it. Wish we could watch it. Check Courteney out (2:41 & 3:29) :)

Filipino remedies

I love our Filipino culture and its superstitions or old wives tales. I’m way superstitious so I love hearing new ones. I learned a new Filipino remedy this weekend: Red string gets rid of hiccups.

So Andrew had hiccups and they put a wet piece of red string on his forehead to help get rid of them. Admittedly, Marc and I started to giggle a bit. Hey, we’ll try anything right?! Then Courteney jokingly says, “Problem solved!” and we started laughing. It was great. Andrew continued to have hiccups.:)

Happy Birthday Michelle

Michelle celebrated her 29th birthday with a bbq at her house. I love house parties because there’s always great food and everyone is in good spirits. Plus, the babies came! Hannah and Alana were there to celebrate too. It was awesome. Happy birthday my dear friend! Cheers to many more.

Marc decided to join us for our Mommy & Me class during his lunch break. It was awesome to have him join Andrew and I in class. Marc participated in most of the activities with Andrew. He learned all the new songs, activities and met all of Andrew’s new friends. There was one song that Marc thought he knew the words to, but didn’t. I nearly fell out laughing. It was a great time. :)

We celebrated Papa Horacio’s 88th birthday at the Mayflower with family and friends.

Father’s Day

Since this was Marc’s first father’s day, Andrew and I wanted to make it special. Andrew and I made sure our presents and our cards were ready for him when he got home. We planned to make it a Father’s Day Weekend so when Marc came home from work Friday we surprised him with dinner for his ” Father’s Day Friday Dinner”. :) We took him to Back Home in Lahaina. We had an awesome family dinner.

Sunday morning I dressed Andrew in his Father’s Day outfit and we headed back to L.A. early so that we could visit our fathers and spend the rest of Father’s Day at home. On the way home we stopped off at Harris Ranch for lunch. Harris Ranch is a restaurant right by that huge cow farm you pass on the 5 freeway. The meat is fresh! Super good. Marc was happy to have a tasty ribeye steak cooked just the way he liked. Andrew also ate and got changed then we headed back to the Marina where Marc opened his presents. It was a good weekend.

Background:

Perry and I have been friends for years, since our freshman year in high school. His wedding celebration was held in San Francisco. About 6 months ago we had dinner with Perry and Christina to celebrate their engagement, Matthew and Natasha’s engagement and my pregnancy.  I asked if I would be able to bring my new baby to the ceremony in San Francisco. Understandably, Christina preferred no babies at the wedding. So at the time, Marc and I thought we could have our parents babysit while we flew up to San Francisco for the day to celebrate and fly back that same night.

Fast forward to just a few weeks ago. My baby boy Andrew is now here and is absolutely wonderful. :) I’ve decided to breastfeed exclusively, which makes Andrew and I inseparable partners. I had been pumping so that we could give him a bottle of breast milk here and there. He was taking the bottle OK at first. We figured by the time it was June 19th, we’d be good. ERRR try again.

These last 2 weeks have been quite a battle.  Suddenly, he refused to take the bottle.  Marc and I were worried that he wouldn’t take the bottle if we left him with our parents… So what were our options? 1. Decide not to go to Perry’s wedding. 2. Bring Andrew with us and tag team taking care of him. Choice number 1 was just awful. I just couldn’t miss Perry’s wedding. He’s a great friend, and I don’t think I could miss out on this important event. Plus, Perry asked me to read during the ceremony. What an honor! So I really couldn’t miss it. We decided on choice number 2.

The plan:  Take turns babysitting Andrew while the other participates in the wedding celebration. With the help of Matthew and Natasha, who had a room in the hotel where the reception was, we were going to make this mission a success.

June 19, 2010

We woke up super early to hit the road by 6am. We figured a normal car trip to SF would take about 5 hours, but we wanted to add some extra time for Andrew’s needs. The wedding started at 2:30pm so we figured we had plenty of time. Just as we hoped, Andrew slept for most of the ride. He only woke up once to eat and change. :) We got to the hotel just in time to get ready and head to the church. So the first part of the plan was for me to participate in the ceremony while Marc and Andrew toured the USF campus outside.

The church was beautiful. Of course, I left the good camera with Marc (good job Marilyn :( ) , so I had to use the little camera which totally sucks at taking pictures from far away. Here’s an example:

Ok that’s supposed to be Perry & Christina. Joy and I were cracking up at how crappy the camera shots were. I need to steal pictures of the ceremony from Tash and Joy.   I was nervous to do the reading. I couldn’t help but keep thinking to myself, “don’t trip and fall”. Geez. They did not have a full mass so the ceremony was short and sweet.

Afterward I met with Marc and Andrew and we headed back to the hotel for a quick feeding and diaper change. There was quite some time before the reception so we had lunch/dinner at Buca di pepo. Then we headed to Matthew and Natasha’s hotel room to set up camp. Matthew’s parents, Monica and Jeff were there too. We decided that I would take the first shift. I would watch Perry & Christina’s entrance, first dance and Matthew’s speech while Marc stayed with Andrew. Then Marc would stay for the dinner while I hung out with Andrew. Lucky for us, Matthew’s mom offered to stay with Andrew for a bit so that Marc and I could take a picture together at the reception. :) So thoughtful. The crazy tag team babysitting plan worked.

Today Andrew got vaccinations. :( It’s true what they say, “It’s worse for the parents than it is for the child”.  I was quite anxious and nervous for my baby. I gently massaged him while they got the shots ready. He was all jolly until they injected him. It was sad, you could see his cheerful face quickly turn to a very upset one. He let out a cry and then settled down. The vaccination experience wasn’t nearly as bad as I had anticipated. Andrew took the shots like a champ.  Marc and I got our long list of questions answered and left the doctors office confident we were raising a healthy little boy.
